The team & role

As a Senior Front End Engineer you will join the Streaming department where we build, maintain and expand our ITVX app on connected TVs and web browsers. You’ll have a focus on building highly responsive, mobile-first front-end solutions, utilising the ReactJS and Next.js Frameworks, for the Video-On-Demand, Catch-Up and Live Streaming markets in the UK.

Our platforms serve millions of hours of content to 40 million customers, across connected TV, web and mobile. You will work closely with colleagues in cross-functional product teams, to meet our increasing scaling demands and ensure our diverse platforms are competitive in an ever-expanding market.

Impact millions, join streaming tech

Working with Product Managers and Agile Delivery Managers to translate requirements and product features into manageable components/tasks, giving estimates, suggesting solutions and identifying possible risks.
Liaise with senior technical staff to explore and suggest strategic technical solutions to support ITV’s long-term strategic technology roadmap.
Contribute towards best practice for application development; specifying, designing and implementing reusable components that are efficient, scalable and well abstracted.
Build comprehensive unit and functional test coverage using automated test driven techniques to ensure code quality.
Work with test and operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues throughout the life cycle.
Write, review and take responsibility for technical documentation that assists teams in picking up domain experience.
Keep abreast of new and existing technologies and be able to apply these to a variety of projects as applicable.
Be active in developer communities inside and outside of ITV, contribute to discussions and external projects, attend conferences and build a network of like-minded individuals.

Skills You’ll Need (minimum role criteria):

5+ years commercial experience in JavaScript development and software engineering principles.
Well-practised in working with ReactJS including modern features such as Hooks and Context.
Adept experience working with React Testing Library and Jest, or equivalent.
Previous experience using modern frontend tooling, for example: GitHub, Webpack, NPM, Babel, esLint.
A breadth experience delivering HTML5 and CSS3 code across a broad array of web and mobile products, with knowledge and awareness of responsive design, performance, accessibility and SEO considerations.

Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)

Good experience building unit and functional tests, ideally using test-driven techniques.
Experience of working in one or more agile software engineering teams, contributing to technical discussions and leading a small team.
Good experience of driving discussions and collaboration across cross-functional teams.
Good experience of coaching and supporting other developers.
Experience in engineering for wider concerns such as reliability, security, performance, cost and scalability.
Experience working with TypeScript (desirable).
Experience of developing and integrating with a CMS, such as Contentful (desirable).
Experience/familiarity with ad-based technologies, or HTML5 video playback technologies and streaming formats, such as HLS, MPEG-DASH (desirable).
Familiarity with developing for embedded devices such as Connected TVs, Set Top Boxes etc (desirable).
